Nick Gabaldon Day June 14, 2014

It’s almost time! Nick Gabaldon day is about to happen and we hope you can make it! Here is the current schedule of events, (times are subject to change) and we need all hands on deck to help make this event happen! Please check out the schedule, and fill out the sign up sheets. Anyone seeking instruction please use the “Surf Lesson Sign-Up Form”, and print and fill out the “Surf Lesson Waiver Form” if you can. Anyone able to volunteer please fill out the “Instructor Sign-Up Form” All activities will be held at the Inkwell (At the end of Bay st. Santa Monica) and Heal the Bay’s Aquarium at Santa Monica Pier.





9am: Welcoming Ceremony and Memorial Paddle Out in honor of Nick Gabaldón (at Bay Street/Ocean Front Walk) Bring a blanket and learn about this historical beach. Explore this sandy habitat with Heal the Bay naturalists.

10 am -12:30 pm: Free surf sessions provided by Black Surfers Collective and the Surf Bus Foundation (Surf lessons must be reserved in advance sign up:

12:30 pm: Beach reception with L.A. County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas

1:00pm: Lunch

1:30pm The celebration moves to Heal the Bay’s Aquarium at theSanta Monica Pier. Admission is free

1:45 pm: Documentary screening of 12 Miles North about Nick‘s life

2:30 pm: Children’s Story Time (And that for those kids that come to the pier for the story time there will be a guest celebrity reader!)
